"Un día vi 10.000 elefantes" deals with Africa's colonial past and historical memory from a mixture of archive cinema, motion graphics, photography and illustration. It's a film where reality and fiction blurs their contours to build a story about the discovery of the magic that exists in Others.
This animated documentary is the result of years of collaboration between Spanish and African creators.
This movie goes beyond the "real" memories from the archival cinema and photography. Based on the experiences and audiovisual products created by an expedition of Spanish filmmakers, Hermic Films (1944-1946), to the former Spanish Guinea. The film is set in its own universe with two parallel narratives that show the paradoxes and misunderstandings of its protagonists: a filmmaker Spanish and his African carrier. From the experiences of the two main characters encourages the viewer to think on how those historical memories imaginary "based on real events" is build.
We could say this film is an historical novel that looks like a comic that looks like an archive?documentary made with cartoons.
